To the dedicated team at Pearl Abyss,
I am writing to you not as an angry customer, but as a long-time player who feels a growing sense of melancholy because the foundational experiences that made me fall in love with Black Desert feel increasingly diminished. I see the potential for this game to be so much more, and it is truly saddening to watch core systems disincentivize new players and exhaust veterans. My hope is that you will accept these points as constructive feedback from someone who genuinely cares about the future of this world.
I. The New Player Experience and Quality of Life (QoL)
The path for new Adventurers feels unnecessarily cluttered and confusing, making it difficult for friends to start playing.
-
Inventory Clutter: It is disappointing to see so many junk items, such as Roaring Green and Blue gear rewarded from quests, that serve little purpose other than to waste valuable inventory space. For a new player, this is confusing and cumbersome.
-
Quest Progression and Rewards: The Main Story Quest (MSQ) is currently filled with unnecessary filler quests that dilute the powerful lore. We appeal to you to compress and focus the MSQ to make the story easier to digest. Furthermore, the rewards need an update. Instead of obsolete gear, a more meaningful reward—like a full set of PEN Boss armor and weapons—would allow new players to reasonably close the gear gap and start enjoying the modern endgame.
-
Unnecessary Quest Items: Please implement an auto-remove function for quest items once a quest is completed. We should not have to manually determine which items are safe to discard.
II. Core Progression, Grind Balance, and Fairness
The fundamental feeling of becoming stronger through effort is losing its impact, which is one of the most disheartening changes.
-
Grinding Rewards: We implore you to re-balance silver-per-hour scaling in grinding zones to be more directly AP-based. Currently, gaining 1 or 2 AP often yields no noticeable increase in silver output, leading to a profound lack of gratification and a sense that effort is not rewarded.
-
Group Content: The lack of focused group grind spots for 2–3 players is a missed opportunity for community building. It makes it extremely difficult for veteran players to carry friends with slightly lower AP, hindering their ability to catch up.
-
RNG System Appeal: We understand that RNG is part of the game, but it’s discouraging when the game feels unfairly stacked against the players. Many of us play games to escape the unfairness of life, and it is a deep sadness to feel the same imbalance here. We are not asking for an easy game, only one that feels more reliably fair for all.
-
World Boss Revamp: World Bosses no longer feel appealing or worthwhile. The rewards are minimal (often just a few gold bars). Please revamp the rewards and make them damage-based to encourage participation and restore the excitement they once provided.
III. Community, Features, and Optimization
Finally, there are critical areas that feel neglected amidst new content updates.
-
Central Market: We would like to appeal for a possible global Central Market across all regions. This could increase the availability of rare items and create a truly global economy.
-
Ship Features: The addition of a First Mate as a designated ship driver would be a fantastic quality-of-life feature, allowing the Captain to be productive (like fishing) while traveling.
-
Optimization: With every new character and map, the game’s optimization seems to be left behind. It is truly frustrating to have a powerful PC and fast network yet still suffer from low FPS and random disconnects. A return to core optimization is vital for the game's long-term health.
Black Desert is a beautiful and ambitious world. We share these concerns because we want to see it thrive. We hope you will take these suggestions to heart and work to restore the sense of reward, fairness, and joyful progression that made us fall in love with the game in the first place.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Add more items and stop removing items.
Don't make the game like other games which have generic items and little selections.
BDO is not as indepth like Elder Scrolls when it comes to items. Hopefully BDO can do better.
Besides grinding, hopefully more exploration, more items, more treasures, etc.
A game that never ends.
